Dear Internet,

I haven't posted much lately, so I figured I would give a brief life update.

Here's my life )

Life has a tendency to throw you curve balls. I need to stop being surprised when things don't go as planned, and learn to roll with the punches a bit more.

Also, I have decided that I want to get back into Yoga and Rock Climbing. It has been too long. My body wants to be used.

Ciao for now.

Dear Internet,

I just wanted to wish a Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] likeshine.

In honor of the original Nerd Queen, I went ahead and doodled up a picture for her.

Nerd Queen Full

Mel and I were chatting a while ago, and decided that we should be King and Queen Nerd. She mentioned liking Video Games, Muppets, Shamrocks, and Cookies. Viola! The Nerd Queen was born. Check out the crown.

I couldn't decide which format to give her, so here's a cropped version and an icon. Knock yourself out. ;)

Check out the art! )

I hope you enjoy the picture, Mel. Have a wonderful day and an even better year. <3

Dear Internet,

My car was just smashed by a rental truck. Welcome to insurance hell.

Three insurances are involves:
-My Insurance
-The Driver's insurance
-The Rental Company's Insurance

My front driver's side fender, headlight, tire, side view mirror, and a portion of the bumper are crushed. I took a quick look under the hood; so far, it looks pretty shaken up but nothing looks out of order.

Work tomorrow. I was supposed to drive out to Davis tonight, but now my car is fucked.

This is a pain.

Dear Internet,

I decided to go out on a limb and make a business. I'm still hashing out the details, packages, pricing, etc, but I decided to throw together a twitter site to see how hard it would be to get some buzz.

"Bird's Eye" Marketing is officially online! Check out our Twitter at: @Birdsmarketing.

I am envisioning a three step process for our clients. Those of you involved in business, I would love to have some feedback on this concept so I can adjust it accordingly. Or if someone just strikes you are odd, please point it out. This is definitely early development.

Step One Research. We conduct some industry, demographics, and competitor analysis.

Step two Development. We make a Marketing package to fit the client's needs. Branding is a must, but we can include various online marketing (social, SEO, etc), traditional media (radio, newspaper), or packaging depending on the scope and budget.

Step Three Implement. Create and distribute the materials.

Advantages: Doing the first step and working with a small team should let me offer the service for a fraction of standard agency charges. So, it should be feasible to get lots small businesses on board. I also have the contacts to get quotes for existing radio, print, and online advertising channels. Nom nom.

Disadvantages: I'm unsure how to price it. Artist or design rates vary wildly, and it is proving difficult to get rates from existing agencies. Perhaps we'll have to go on a percentage basis. Hmmm... Need feedback. I know some of you are pretty business savvy.

Let's see how this works.

Dear Internet,

I went ahead and made a Dreamwidth.

http://kigs.dreamwidth.org/

My plan is to cross post to both. I'm still not entirely sure what the difference between the two is. If anyone can enlighten me on the matter, I would be very appreciative.

Also, who else is on there? Do you like it?

Dear Internet,

Let's see the different between Livejournal and Dreamwidth.

I see the same format, a similar fan base, and the same posting ability.

What's the difference?

Dear Internet,

Like many American rug rats, I lost an entire summer to Cable television.

Before then, I spent my summers doing classic "old fashioned" things with my summer vacation. Examples include running through the sprinklers, playing street hockey, riding my bike, and causing general mischief. My entire childhood consisted of scraped knees, bruised elbows, and stitches. I loved it. At age 24, I sometimes feel that I owe my parents an apology for ever being a kid.

Then I hear about what monstrosities they inflicted on my grandparents, and suddenly I don't feel so bad. My mother and her siblings grew up in Mexico, and apparently American Childhoods are mild in comparison. Their childhood stories revolve around getting bitten by dogs and throwing each other into walls. Silly kids.

Things progressed as usual until, one day, my family purchased cable television. BAM! I lost an entire summer vacation sitting placidly in front of a television. I had the entire programming schedule memorized. Kids would knock on my door and ask me to play hockey, and I would politely decline because "Legends of the Hidden Temple" was about to come on.

Cable Television Ate My Childhood!!

Thankfully, I managed to escape its jagged grasp and rejoin society. Nowadays, I don't even have cable. It's expensive, and most of the programming is cheaper to watch online or to buy the DVD. I will never get that summer back.

In honor of lost summers, I have decided to share some entertainment with you wonderful internet people. For everyone who has ever lost a summer to Alf, Little House on the Prairie, or Dinosaurs. Compliments of Bob, I present to you, the 7 most Soul Crushing Season Finales on Television.

Here's a sneak peak; the ending to my personal favorite childhood fossilized sitcom: Dinosaurs

I think I actually watched this Season Finale, and blocked it out of my memory. My stubborn little boy brain refused to believe that my favorite show had ended with the Extinction of all of its stars.

Our Time

Dear Internet,

Many of you have heard already, but I am once again on the job market. Thankfully, I still have one of my part time positions. But the one that I wanted fell through.

I am confident that the company will be unable to find a perfect replacement for me. They asked me to do a marketing flyer in 2 hours, including text, formatting, and a graphic. I'm pretty quick, but I'm no that quick. No one is that quick.

Oh well. C'est la vie.

The good news is that I am now in the process of putting together a few professional marketing packages to shop around with. Graphics. Research. Number crunching. Consumer behavior. Logos. The whole deal.

To-Do List mostly for my reference )

Why is it that inspiration only strikes while you're about to settle into bed. I came home at midnight ready to pass out and, literally as I was turning off the lights, I had a few ideas.

Three and a half hours later, my notebook is covered in business plans, random sketches, to-do lists, and a fiction short story.

Perhaps it is the nature of creativity to abhor a schedule. After all, it can't be spontaneous if it's planned. Now if only I could figure out a way to balance creativity and sleeping. Hmm...

Dear Internet,

Does anyone have an invite for http://ffffound.com?

Good site. Excellent for inspiration or just to browse through. Ffffound lets folks post their favorite images from the internet, leading to a lot of good art, photography, advertisement design, or just fun or strange images. You can check similar pictures or set the site up as a screenshot.

Careful, though. It is powered with attention deficit disorder.

Here's a few quick ones.

Dear Internet,

This was the first year that I spent Easter away from my family.

It's a strange thing. I won't see them for months at a time, but this year my paycheck schedule didn't let me drive down to the East Bay.

So, instead, my roommates and I had an impromptu "Easter Day Murder Movie Festival.

We started with Hannibal, then moved on to Natural Born Killers, Dawn of the Dead, Slayers, Blade, and finally Blade III. We skipped Blade II because it is terrible.

In one day, we covered serial killers, psychopaths, zombies, and vampires. The only eggs involved in the day were the ones we ate for breakfast.

What started as my roommates and I turned into 8 people hanging out, sorta watching movies, sipping drinks, and having good conversation on a rainy day. I can't remember the last time I spent a nice in the house with my friends. It was pretty relaxing.

Dear Internet,

Today has been enjoyable.

My boss left early, so I decided to do the rest of my day of work from the cafe down the street.

So, I'm hanging out here eating a scone, listening to music, drinking excellent tea, and getting paid for working from my laptop. This is wonderful.

Today is a good day. It's even raining outside. :D

Dear Internet,

Airplanes always ask you to put your tray tables up and your seat back in the full upright position.

Because if the pilot fucks up and crash lands, you will survive if that cheap plastic tray doesn't murder you.

....right?

Wait. What? No.

Why the hell do they ask you to do that?

Zombie Tag

Mar. 14th, 2010 03:17 pm
kigs: kigs (Default)
Dear Internet,

Jaie pointed me towards this this gem.

The rules of Zombie Tag are simple:

1) Collect at least 5 to as many people as you want.

2) Choose a spot to play. It can either be a wide outdoor space, or a theatre space, or even a maze-like structure where you have to find your way around.

3) Ask or choose who will be the doctor.

4) Everyone but the doctor stands in a circle and closes their eyes. The doctor will choose two or more (depending on the number of players) sleeper zombies by tapping them on the head. The doctor will then ask the zombies to look up and recognize each other.

5) Give the doctor a few minutes to hide. Then begin the game. Once the game has begun, the sleeper zombies have to wait one minute before they turn from humans into zombies.

6) At least two humans must find the doctor (he has the antidote, of course) and bring him to a designated spot (usually an exit to the outdoors, or an elevated place if you're outdoors.)

7) If you're a zombie, you have no intelligence. You cannot run. You can't guard the doctor if you've found him, and the only thing you can say is, "Brains!" You can say brains to scare your victim, or to ask another person if they're a zombie, for example.

8) Optional: Have the doctor choose a runner zombie and an angel as well. The runner zombie, obviously, can run, unlike the other zombies. The angel can turn zombies back into humans, but only once for each person. The angel also is unaffected by zombies.

9) If the humans bring the doctor to the designated spot safely, then it's a human victory! If everyone is zombified, then it's a zombie victory!

Who is interested in playing some Zombie Tag? :)

Mala Week

Mar. 10th, 2010 02:40 pm

Dear Internet,

Today,
I drove [livejournal.com profile] malaikawolfcat to the airport.

It's interesting how some people meet each other. When we first met, we were sharing a hotel room with a mutual friend and disliked each other. I thought she was weird, and she thought I was too intense. Years later, we're good friends. I haven't actually seen her in about three years, and it was as if no time had passed since the last time we were hanging out.

Even if we don't speak much on the internet, it's refreshing to see someone who you haven't seen in several years and immediately pick up where you left off. The last time we visited, we were in Vegas for her 21st birthday. I was going to college in Stockton, and she was working at a zoo in Oregon. Years pass, and now I'm working two part times jobs in Sacramento and she's trying to figure herself out in Texas. We are hardly the same people we were three years ago.

But after all those years, we immediately went back to watching Lost, drawing silly things, and hanging out in diners for hours talking about weird meaningless little things. It was refreshing.

See you in three years, Ashley. Let's see where we are by then.

Truly,
Kigs
