I drove out to Brentwood to visit the folks this morning and was confronted with an interesting tidbit from the local newspaper.
Time for some background.
Brentwood is a small town. In the middle of this little farmer's village, there is an old traditionalist church. The building has been there since the dawn of time, and so has everyone inside of it.
Today, the churchgoer's voted to sell the church to a local real estate company. The church will be renovated and turned into a real estate office and a new one will be constructed near the outskirts of town.
If this isn't symbolic of the nature of the economy in that town, I don't know that is.
At first, I felt bad. Then, I felt amused. Then, I realized that this was not a hostile take over. The church sold out to the local real estate literati in order to acquire more funds. If they wanted to hold on to the property, they very well could have.
