Perhaps a bit too literal

A droped a silver spoon into the garbage can today.

It was an accident.
But, when confronted with the choice of digging through rotten meat juice and leaves or just buying another spoon, I decided on the later.

I would rather buy another spoon than dirty my sleeves.
