Angela helped me pick out a pair of jeans yesterday.
This may not seem like much. After all, it's just a pair of jeans.
But, what you are unaware of is that I have not worn a pair of jeans since I was in middle school.
EVER!
At one point towards the end of middle school, I discovered canvas pants and never went back. I let the jean boat set sail and never regretted it.
That was, of course, until yesterday.
Yesterday, things were different.
A little more background.
I am terrible at shopping for myself. Most of the clothing I own consist of things which people give me for holidays, things I buy while helping other people pick clothes, or things which people have forgotten at my house. In order to combat this crippling problem, Angela, a fellow student of the Theatre Department and avid fashion/design person, volunteered to help me pick out some clothing.
Despite going out to purchase clothing for winter.
Despite being accompanied by a fashionable lady.
Despite my best logic.
All that I purchased yesterday was a pair of darkwash jeans.
If you'll humor my ignorance for a moment, when the hell did jeans become so complicated?
They come pleated, rolled up, dark washed, light washed, acid washed, pre-cut, pre-torn, and dyed. How the fuck do you manage to stretch the concept of "blue rugged pants" into thousands of varieties, colors, shapes, textures, and flavors?
Can I get my pair of jeans in mango punch flavor? How about a venti carmel machiato pair of jeans?
Apparently, my purchase of an otherwise unnoteworthy pair of jeans has caused me to appear more like a film noir detective.
Personally, I'd blame the cigarette, sandpaper stubble, fedora, and the maroon dress shirt under a leather jacket. But, apparently it was the jeans which put me over the top.
Are my days of khakis or black slacks finished? What will the next episode in the saga of Kigs' pants be?
Only time will tell.
